How To Get DVD’s Before They’re Released in Australia – And Legally!

As we all know, movies are released in the US several weeks, even months before we get them over here in Australia. But there is a way that you can get get these DVD’s as soon as they are released in the US and it’s totally legal. For this example we will compare a DVD, “No Strings Attached” being purchased from an Australian online store and then from a US online store.

So, as we can see in the shot below we can purchase the DVD from EzyDVD in Australia for AUD$32.97. Also note that the release date of the movie is 9 June 2011.

We then head on over to Amazon where we can see the same DVD being released on 10 May 2011 for US$16.99. It does say next to the price that this item has free shipping but this is for US customers only so we need to ignore this.

So as you can see, the difference in cost between the two stores as well as the difference in the amount of time between when the movie is released in the US to when it’s released in Australia is huge.

To compare even further we add shipping costs to the item. To have the movie shipped from EzyDVD the cost is $1.50 and the cost to have the movie shipped from Amazon in the US is $4.99 so this brings the totals respectively to AUD$34.47 and US$21.98. We also need to take into account the exchange rate, which at the time of writing this article will bring the cost of the DVD shipped from the US to $20.60.

So not only can we get this DVD a month earlier than it is available in Australia, we can also get it for almost $14 less when purchasing from the US. Amazing!
