One of my favourite brands of shoes to buy are Skechers. They are great for everyday wear and I don’t like the “clunkiness” I find most sneakers have. Skechers are so light and tight and it feels like you have nothing on your feet – in my opinion anyway! A few years ago I took a weekend shopping trip to Melbourne with my Mum and Sister and bought a pair of Skechers to wear for the weekend as we knew we would be doing A LOT of walking. I didn’t wear them at all before going and only put them on for the first time when we arrived in Melbourne. I didn’t get a single blister or feel uncomfortable once, like you would normally with new shoes, when you have to “wear them in”.
Skechers are expensive here in Australia, as anyone who has bought them would know. Generally, you can’t get them under the $120 mark. But I have a secret (well, not really a secret) where I get my Skechers for half the price everyone else pays in Australia. I would just like to note that I’m not being paid by Skechers, I do genuinely love this brand.
So how do you get a pair of Skechers half price? Well, I buy my Skechers from a great online store called Shoebuy.com. To show you the difference between the cost of purchasing in Australia compared to at Shoebuy, I have selected a pair of Skechers called “Hot Ticket” in pink and grey. Firstly you can see these shoes for sale on the Betts & Betts website for $119.99.
Now, you can see the same pair of Skechers for sale at Shoebuy.com for US$52.95.
So, I add them to my cart and proceed to checkout (unless you want to buy anything else of course). Now, one of my secrets to shopping online is coupons. Americans love coupons and most stores, you will find, offer a coupon. Just go to Google and search for Shoebuy Coupons and look through a few sites until you find a good one that works. Another trick is to sign up to newsletters of stores you like and they usually email you out coupons. In this case I found a coupon offering 20% discount. In a lot of cases, the discount covers at least half of your shipping charges. The cost of the shoes is now down to US$42.36.
I now proceed to checkout to finalise my purchase. After entering my address I can see that the cost of shipping to Australia is US$32. I can hear you all saying “WTF…$32 for shipping, that’s almost the cost of the shoes! No way!” BUT remember, the total cost including shipping is still half the price of Betts & Betts.
As an addedd bonus, the Australian dollar is very strong at the moment. You can’t always count on this but at this particular time, the cost will be even less when converted in Australian dollars. To get a general idea of the cost go to XE.com, a currency exchange site to do the sums. At the time of writing this post, I should be charged around AUD$70 for the Skechers including shipping. The shoes should arrive within a week and there’s nothing more exciting than getting your parcel in the mail!

Also, as a note, if you are buying more than one pair of shoes don’t expect to pay $32 per pair of shoes in shipping. Generally, the first item costs the most to ship, then anything after is cheaper. For example, if I had purchased a second pair of shoes the shipping might be a total of $45 or with three pairs it might be $55. So a good idea is to get some friends together and buy a few things to split the shipping costs.
