Recently my favourite perfume, Emporio Armani She, ran out. It’s my daily wear perfume which I have worn for the past 5 or 6 years and just love it. However, when I went out in search of a new bottle I found out that this perfume is no longer being sold in Australia. This always happens to me! So, I went straight home and got onto the internet to find a bottle somewhere and of course, my favourite country to shop – the United States – came through for me again. When I used to purchase this perfume in Australia it cost me approximately $150. You can see here, I can purchase the same bottle from US online store FragranceX.com for only $66.24 AUD plus shipping costs of around US$16.00 – a grand total of $82.00, almost half what I used to pay in Australia.

To be able to complete a detailed case study I have chosen to compare a perfume which is available in Australia – in this case a 100ml bottle of Emporio Armani Acqua Di Gio perfume for women - being purchased from a store in Australia to being purchased from a US online store.

Firstly, I can find this perfume at department store Myer for AUD $145. If I were to purchase this from the Myer store the shipping would cost an additional $8.00 but seeing as I could go to an actual Myer store and purchase this product I won’t include the shipping cost this time.

I then find this same bottle of perfume at FragranceX for $71.03. I did a quick search for FragranceX coupons and the first site that comes up has a coupon for 10% discount. This literally took me 10 seconds to do. BUT, when I went to take a screenshot of the shopping cart for you, I noticed in big red writing at the top of the page they already provide a coupon code for 10% discount! Silly me.

The total for the product is now $63.93. This store has a great facility which shows you the shipping cost before having to complete check out and I can see that shipping will cost $15.41 bringing the order to a total of $79.34. This store allows you to shop in Australia currency, so this price is in Australian dollars. So, I can get the exact same bottle of perfume for under $80.00 that I would have to pay $145 for here in Australia. Hope you guys agree that this is the best way to get your perfume! I have a secret. I pay half the price for True Religion jeans than you do. This brand of jeans is very expensive in Australia and I thought there had to be a cheaper way to get my hands on these jeans, while still buying the genuine the brand, not a knock-off. My search ended as quickly as it begun, when I decided to go straight to the True Religion online store which is a US based store. Within a minute I discovered that I can get a pair of True Religion jeans for half the price they sell for in Australia including shipping.

For the purpose of this case study I have compared buying a pair of jeans, specifically a style called “Julie Super T” at an Australian online store to buying them at the US True Religion store. Firstly, we can see at the Australian online store below, FashionJeans.com.au, I can purchase this pair of jeans for AUD$599.

I then head over to the True Religion store and can purchase the same pair for US$319.

Of course, we need to check shipping costs as sometimes, shipping can be so high it can just blow out the cost of the item and make it not worthwhile to purchase the item overseas. In this case the Australian online store offers free shipping. The True Religion store offers a flat rate shipping fee of only $19.99 to international customers. For those who don’t shop online overseas often, this is a very, very good cost for shipping. I remember looking at the True Religion store around a year ago and they were charging around $50 for shipping, so it’s great that they have reduced this cost.

In total the cost to purchase the jeans at the Australian online store is AUD$599. To purchase the same pair of jeans at the US True Religion online store is US$338.99. We also need to take into account the exchange rate which, at the time of writing, brings the total cost to around AUD$318. So what are you waiting for?? Go get your half price True Religion Jeans!
